FORWARD REACTION: The Truth Hits the Streets

Artists/Hosts:
Nina Bednarski

Craig Grabhorn

This show served to document the events that occurred in Madison, WI the weeks following the release of the WI Budget Repair Bill from Governor Scott Walker and his GOP majority. A small story that links to a growing state of economic uncertainty, fear and anxiety across the United States and beyond. A story about individuals who dream of a future where fairness and compromise have a place in government. As Wisconsinites took to the streets, it became clear that our collective spirit is strong and our democracy is under attack. Decades of corporate influence and campaign financing (including 2010’s Supreme Court ruling: Citizens United vs. FCC) has clearly taken our political system away from the people. Mainstream media has followed the low road spewing fear and propaganda into our homes and airways.

In the winter of 2011, three friends meet day and night on the street in search of the truth. Enraged by a decade of post 9/11 fear tactics, greed, lies and war; we found the enemy playing us right here at home. Stencils, paint, photography and words were our vehicles to release or capture our emotion and frustration during critical moments of our non-violent revolt. These historical works connect directly with the Wisconsin struggle, but carry the universal language of solidarity, love and the light of the human spirit when beaming with determination. FORWARD!

Ride The Drive

Ride The Drive was a 6-mile loop from John Nolen Drive to East Washington and around the Capitol Square, allowing bikers, rollerbladers, walkers and joggers access to views not normally available due to traffic. We were fortunate enough to set up a tent and print t'shirts that day.

Screenprinting for Kids

Some pics from one of our one day screen printing classes. Kids get to work on ideas for their t'shirt designs at the beginning of the class and by the end of the day have finished worked through the screenprinting process with us and leave the class with their own art on their shirts. So much fun!
